Design, Lighting and Contrast

"The book is wonderful. Ben Díaz is one of the best speakers I know; I knew translating his knowledge into a book would be magnificent, and that's exactly what we've got in here."

CaCo García

A method accessible to everyone
Now, after the first large-format edition sold out, "Design, Lighting and Contrast" is available in an A5-sized edition: a manageable book full of essential content for lighting designers, lighting technicians, teachers and students.

"It's a comprehensive, intelligent Method, and also a philosophy of light: a perfect manual for teaching how to design lighting on stage. I highly recommend it."

Lola Barroso

The same contents that have made it a reference manual, now in a 30% more compact and economical format

"Its contents are very easy to understand, both for those who already have some knowledge of lighting and for beginners. With the book, I learned about concepts that I sometimes use without knowing why."

About the Author
Written and revised by Ben Díaz
Ben Díaz began writing "Design, Lighting, and Contrast" in 2019 and worked on it for four years while living in Denmark, Germany, and Spain. In it, he synthesized his 25 years of experience as a Lighting Designer and his work as a Senior Product Manager for LED luminaires.
The first limited and numbered edition, also in Spanish, was published in large format and sold out in just six months. It includes a prologue by Professor Pepe Barba, a preface by the author, a glossary of technical terminology, and a list of featured illuminators. This second paperback edition has been reduced to 320 pages and includes a prologue by Ada Bonadei.

"Ben Díaz is one of the most influential voices worldwide in the design and development of luminaires. His approach combines technical knowledge, strategic vision, and a passion for sharing what he's learned. He is rewriting the present and future of the lighting industry."
LATAM Stage, May 2025
"Ben is a true leader in the field of lighting and AV technology. He has revolutionized the industry with iconic creations such as SkyPanel X and LunaBulb, completely disruptive products, and he has published a unique method for stage lighting. Ben Díaz not only creates cutting-edge technology, but also inspires those who aspire to excellence."
Sonido e Iluminación magazine, January 2025
"Ben writes from the most classic experience and professional background; he attempts to trace a coherent and comprehensive path that, step by step, follows the necessary stages. It's a clear, communicable, and shareable Method, with serious, understandable definitions."

What are the differences between the limited edition and the latest edition?
Is this a book for beginners or for expert Lighting Designers?
